A flexible analytical model for operational investigation of solar hydrogen plants

Hydrogen will become a dominant energy carrier in the future and efficiency lifetime cost of its production through water electrolysis is major research focus. Alongside efforts to offer optimum solutions plant design sizing, it also necessary develop flexible virtualised replica renewable hydrogen plants, that not only models compatibility with “plug-and-play” nature many facilities, but identifies key elements for optimisation system operation. This study presents model based on real-time historical present-day datasets PV connected grid-connected AC microgrid comprising different technologies batteries, electrolysers, fuel cells. Mathematical each technology were developed from chemical physical metrics plant. The first step toward implementation digital twin system, accurate validation behaviour when updated data. As case study, solar pilot consisting 60 kW Solar PV, 40 PEM electrolyser, 15 LIB battery 5 cell simulated analysed. Two effective operational factors plant's performance are defined: (i) electrolyser power settings determine appropriate over twilight periods and/or overnight (ii) user-defined minimum threshold state charge prevent depletion if load higher than capacity. objective this modelling maximise yield while both loss supply probability (LPSP) excess minimised. analysis determined: 38–39% DC produced, an LPSP <2.6 × 10?4 (iii) < 2% lost grid as electricity study.
